'Turntable'

Custom platter, tonearm, and headshell.

I built the base of what became this turntable a decade ago, just for an exsting turntable to sit on. Then after 10 years of that, I decided to just make it into the turntable itself.

The idea originally, was to swap over parts from an old Sony deck: the motor, the spindle, the platter, arm, and electronics.
The motor and spindle made it, and worked fine. However, with the new cartridge I wanted to run, the non-adjustable arm, did not.
So after researching how tonearms work for a few days, I designed and built my own arm, and custom headshell. Both were 3d printed, and ride on ball bearings, utlilizing a lead weight, suspended off the back of the tonearm's gimbal, to provide anti-skate.

I built a counterweight sled for the back of the arm, and just taped on an apropriate amount of weight in extra ball bearings, to provide the correct tracking force.
And the result is pretty awesome, and sounds better than the one it came from.
